This adapter ring is used to attach a filter or other accessory with a smaller size to the lens. The ring is attached to a 62m lens, after which a 52mm filter can be screwed into the ring.
When using step-down rings there is a high chance of vignetting, because the used accessory has a smaller diameter then the camera lens.
