This adapter ring is used to attach a filter or other accessory with a larger size to the lens. The ring is attached to a 28mm lens, after which a 37mm filter can be screwed into the ring.
When using step-up rings there is little chance of vignetting, because the used accessory has a larger diameter then the camera lens.
